The Greater Sun Lakes Community Foundation has awarded a grant to LAFF, a newly formed interfaith entertainment group. LAFF stands for Laughter and Friendship Forever! Sponsored by the Sun Lakes Jewish Congregation, LAFF has been developed as an interfaith partnership, with all congregations and religious organizations within Sun Lakes invited to share friendship, entertainment, and camaraderie through laughter! The goal of LAFF is to utilize all of the arts (music, dance, theater, and visual arts) to enhance cultural understanding and improve inter-group relations, as well as provide opportunities for mental, emotional, and physical exercise to foster well-being for the senior residents of Sun Lakes.

The upcoming musical project, The Family Tree, is designed to create opportunities for the community of Sun Lakes to share laughter and camaraderie, to develop interfaith understandings, and to dispel cultural and religious misunderstandings through entertainment and education. You’ll howl with laughter during the production of The Family Tree, a hysterically funny, original musical comedy, to be presented in the Spring of 2025. Rehearsals are already underway for The Family Tree, with a talented cast of 30 actors, singers, and dancers who represent many religious organizations throughout our community.

Four performances will be held on stage in Sun Lakes Country Club’s Arizona Room during the last weekend of March and the first weekend of April. Performances are Saturday, March 29, at 7 p.m. and Sunday, March 30, at 2 p.m., and then the following weekend, Saturday, April 5, at 7 p.m. and Sunday, April 6, at 2 p.m. Tickets will go on sale beginning Tuesday, Feb. 18. Tickets are $18 when purchased by cash or check at the Administration desk at Sun Lakes Country Club or by charge (with a small surcharge) at www.ticketsource.us/slhoa1, or they can be purchased at the door prior to each performance.

LAFF is open to everyone throughout Sun Lakes, and we have something to do for all who are interested in participating! Stage and tech crew positions are still open to help with sound, lighting, videotaping, costumes, makeup, and publicity. If you are interested, please contact Carol Horowitz at [email protected].

You never know what surprises and secrets you’ll discover while researching your family tree! Please mark your calendars to buy tickets! Let’s LAFF together!
