Library Volunteers

Jan Bobbett

Thanks to our library volunteers. Every day we can count on them to process new books, to check out books from the Best Sellers cabinet, to reserve a book so it can be checked out when returned, and to keep the shelves as neat as they can, etc.

Now that we are entering a new year, I think it’s time to catch up by introducing several new librarians. We’ll introduce two at this time and a few more next month.

Barbara Trumpis

First, let’s meet Barbara Trumpis. Barbara has an educational background, including serving as an instructional aid in elementary school, as well as experience in education for gifted students. Before working in our library, she was a manager at Barnes & Noble.

Barbara moved to Sun Lakes almost 20 years ago so she could help her mother. That turned out well, and now her son lives with Barbara.

She likes working in our library and agrees with many other librarians, claiming it meets the needs of our community in Sun Lakes Phase 1 and the other areas of Sun Lakes as well. Yes, she likes reading, and her favorite authors include Louise Penny, Jacqueline Winspear, and especially Maisie Dobbs. She takes advantage of the Robson Library as well and likes Rhys Bowen’s books, which she found there.

Mary Salman

Mary came to Sun Lakes in 2016 after finding a home with enough garage space for her husband’s boat. Before coming here, she lived in South Dakota and Phoenix. She worked as a lab tech and an office manager.

She especially likes the library, partly because she is impressed by all the boxes of books that generous people donate. She finds every opportunity to enjoy and connect with our customers.

Mary likes our array of books and looks into (at least a bit) books that are in categories she didn’t pay attention to before working in the library, like our Cozies.

What appeals to her is historical fiction. Here are a few special favorites: The Women, Anna Karenina, and Cutting for Stone. That last book is by Abraham Verghese, the author of The Covenant of Water, which is in our library.

Other interests are her slimnastics class, her book groups, and her bunco and Mexican train groups.

Happy New Year from our librarians!
