Judee Curtis
What a wonderful fall season of line dancing. New dancers, continuing current dancers, dancers returning for the winter have been learning new dances and reviewing favorite dances. We are using our minds, exercising our bodies and enjoying each other. It’s like an extended family with life events, i.e. successful surgeries, birthdays, new activities, family weddings, travel adventures and life in general. We even have fun talking about our favorite sports as participants or spectators.
My goal for this extended family is to teach them steps and patterns used in the line dances taught. I focus on being consistent with words, teaching techniques on how to do moves without hurting body parts, picking dances with good footwork that flows, and choosing music that is danceable. The most important goal is choosing music that is recognizable, soothing, and as soon as you hear it, you just want to dance! It’s so rewarding to know the dancers appreciate my method of teaching which does not include following. Being floor aware is taught for the safety of all dancers. The method of teaching that I have used for 17 years has actually helped some dancers to learn new dances in other classes.
New dancers may register now for the Ultra Basic Class starting Monday, January 9, 2017 and on Mondays in the SunBird Ballroom at noon for $2. New registrations will be taken through January 21. To register for this class you can call Judee at 480-802-0201 after 10:00 a.m. If you register for this class you need to be physically fit to dance, can hear instructions, are able to remember instructions and willing to commit to attending classes regularly for at least three months. I want to be able to give you the appetizer, entree and dessert of line dancing, not just a taste. Line dancing doesn’t just happen. Come dance with us and escape this crazy world. God bless line dancing!
