Lions Club International designated Jan. 3-11, 2026, as National Hunger Week and encouraged Lions Clubs around the world to participate in one service project to help those in need. Sun Lakes (evening) Lions Club held a food drive for a donation to AZCEND as our Hunger Week service project.
Being able to fully grasp how deeply hunger affects lives can be very difficult if you have not faced it yourself. Almost one billion people worldwide experience food insecurity. In Maricopa County, Ariz., one in seven residents are food insecure due to lack of money and other essential resources. Addressing the issue of hunger, however, is not just about numbers. This donation is a step toward easing food insecurity in Maricopa County.
To truly make a difference, hunger relief must be approached with empathy and innovative action. For Lions around the world, this means building effective partnerships with organizations in our area who help to feed the hungry.
