Looking for a Writer!

Doug Williams

Kathy Norman

Have you wanted to see your name in print? The Sun Lakes Rock, Gem & Silver Club is looking for someone to write their monthly newsletter and a monthly article for the Splash describing the many activities the club provides.

What is the Sun Lakes Rock, Gem and Silver Club? It is one of the largest clubs in Sun Lakes. They have four studios; two located in Cottonwood, one in Oakwood, and one in Sun Lakes Country Club.

This thriving group of almost 200 members boasts very inexpensive classes with knowledgeable instructors. These classes range from designing and crafting jewelry, stained glass, dichroic and fused glass, beadwork, designing gourds, and lost wax.

In addition to seeing your name in print, you just might find an exciting new hobby, as well as meet all sorts of interesting and talented people. Members come in all sizes, ages, and talents.

When Doug Williams stepped down from being the publicity coordinator, no one came forward to fill this very important job. This is an interesting position, and the club has kept a scrapbook of past articles to help you familiarize yourself with the club activities. Also, with around 200 members, there will be no problem finding someone to interview. Don’t allow this unique opportunity to pass you by. Come see what we have to offer.

At this time, we also want to thank Doug for the years he has entertained us with his witty and informative articles. Doug started his jewelry making career in 1965. He specializes in turquoise and silver and took his first jewelry class as an art major at Colorado State University and graduated with a BA degree. For almost 50 years, he bought turquoise cabochons already finished. However, in 2013, after retiring, he moved to Sun Lakes and joined the Sun Lakes Rock, Gem & Silver Club. There, he took a lapidary class, and the rest is history.

He fell in love with seeing the uncut stones turned into beautiful cabochons that he had created. Doug is always generous with his time and expertise in helping others in the club. As previously stated, his articles will be missed; however, we all look forward to continuing to see him in the shops.

If you are interested in filling this extremely important position, whether a current member or someone who just wants to hone their writing skills, contact President Kathy Norman at 602-284-0355.
