Lisa Sherburne and Sarah Marks
Lisa Sherburne is the newly elected President of the Sun Lakes Rock, Gem, and Silver Club and brings over 15 years of hands-on experience—along with a great deal of enthusiasm—to this wonderful club.
“It’s a pleasure to be part of a community where people come together to share their love of rocks, gems, silver work, and a variety of creative crafts.
“In addition to my creative background, I have served in numerous board positions, which has given me valuable experience in leadership, organization, and supporting a strong, active membership.
“I’m enjoying learning new techniques and truly appreciate the many ways our members express their creativity. I’m especially excited to continue to explore all the crafts our club has to offer, including gourds, stained glass, fused glass, metal clay, and lost wax.
“My goal as President is to keep the club welcoming, engaging, and inspiring for everyone—whether you’re experienced or just getting started. We’re all here to learn from one another, try new things, and enjoy the process.
“What truly makes this club special is its members. There’s always someone willing to share knowledge, lend a hand, or simply enjoy good conversation while creating. I’m proud to be part of this group and look forward to all we will continue to accomplish together.”
Sarah Marks is the newly elected Vice President of the Sun Lakes Rock, Gem, and Silver Club.
“My journey started when I got involved with lapidary and silver smithing back in 2015, when I went on my first rockhounding expedition at Lake Mead. I was hooked, quickly joining a rock club in Las Vegas.
“When my husband and I were looking for a place in Arizona to be closer to our kids and grandkids, we came upon Sun Lakes and were thrilled at the amenities that were offered, especially the three rock shops. We knew this was the place we wanted to be. Fast forward two and a half years and I’ve immersed myself in both the SLRGS Club as well as serving on the Board of IronOaks HOA.
“I’ve jumped into lapidary, silver, lost wax, and faceting gem stones. This year we’ve had a few rock hounding field trips I’ve led to Sycamore Creek, Quartzite, Tucson Gem Show, and Black Mountain in Safford near the New Mexico border. Over the summer, I look forward to trying some glass work too.”
