Happy 4th of July! This is the 248th celebration of our independence as a nation and a wonderful time to remember all the fantastic opportunities we have as a result of the actions taken by the Founding Fathers. It is the perfect time for families, friends, and neighbors to get together and remember the critical documents that set the stage for our success as a nation. These include the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution of the United States of America and the Amendments to same, along with the Bill of Rights. It is also a good time to review our own state’s Constitution. I truly love the second paragraph of the Declaration of Independence that states, “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness— …”

We have the privilege of living in a wonderful community with the freedom to live life to the fullest, enjoy liberty from tyranny, and pursue our own definitions of happiness every day. Take time to treasure these moments with family and friends as we celebrate our nation’s birthday.
