MOGA Update

If you are new to the community or would like to spend some time on the golf course, why not join MOGA? Our Thursday games are a good way to meet some new friends. You don’t have to be a resident of IronOaks to join our group. We have over 380 active and handicap-only members with golfers at every level. MOGA has an event each Thursday throughout the year. Join MOGA and meet some new friends while playing a variety of team and individual games each week.

Upcoming Schedule for May MOGA Games:

May 5: Team Stableford by Flight 7:30 a.m.; Individual Stableford by Flight noon

May 12: ABCD Scramble 7:30 a.m.; Individual Low Net by Flight noon

May 19: Match Play by Flight* 7:30 a.m.; Match Play by Flight noon

May 26: Individual Low Gross/Net by Flight 7:30 a.m.; Individual Stableford by Flight noon

Dates followed by an asterisk are MOGA Appreciation Days with free beer and soda in the afternoon.

Game descriptions are on the MOGA website www.mogagolf.org, and results of each week’s event are posted on the website. Payouts to weekly participants have averaged 50%, so come out and win some pro shop chits.

The skins games going forward will be from the blue tees for single-digit handicaps. Higher handicaps can continue to play from the white tees.

Membership: Re-enrollment for 2022 MOGA membership is now underway. Join or enroll online, and you can use a credit card and save some money.

Getting to Know … MOGA – Doug Stodgel

Doug Stodgel and his wife Cathy have two children, Jeff Stodgel and Amy Kungl. They have four grandchildren (Connor, Jacob, Andrew, and Ethan). They moved to Oakwood two years and four months ago and joined MOGA in January of 2019. Doug played eight years of professional baseball with the New York Yankees, Chicago White Sox, and Chicago Cubs. He worked 40 years at Sears Service as a technician, and he worked at Laguna Woods Golf Course for seven years as an assistant to the head professional. His current index is 4.6, and he has won the MOGA Club Championship the past three years.

Tournament Results-Club Championship:

Mike Burht won the Club Championship in a playoff with Bobby Jones.

Vern Evans won the Super Senior event.
