New Adventures offers lifelong learning in the southeast valley
For 20 years, New Adventures in Learning has been affiliated with Chandler-Gilbert Community College to offer lifelong-learning classes. Member Larry Noser suggests, “New Adventures may well be the best and least expensive way to entertain and educate yourself in a collegial atmosphere in Arizona.” Every year, the completely-volunteer group offers three semesters of classes and other events to enrich the lives of members. The summer semester continues until July 31, 2019. To see which classes are still open or to register online, go to www.NewAdventures.info and click the link marked Classes.
Presenters may be professionals in the areas they are teaching or simply may have an interest in certain topics and wish to share information. Members may sign up for as many classes as they would like once they have paid the initial cost of annual membership of $50 and a $15 fee each semester that goes to CGCC. Personal development, of course, is right at the heart of the various programs. An important benefit is the opportunity to meet and enjoy the company of other self-motivated people in the community.
Ed Rockland, another member-volunteer, explains, “Lifelong learning is what the New Adventures’ program is all about. From the moment we are born, we learn. When we stop learning, that is a tragedy. The presentations help me remain an active learner, both as an attendee and as a presenter.” Five formats exist for the presentations: traditional lectures, roundtable discussion groups, computer classes, field trips and special events. Each of these may last one session or several, depending on the presenters’ vision for the class.
