Valentine’s Day is February 14. Did you know that Arizona is known as the Valentine state and that it was the last of the contiguous states to be accepted into the union? The reason I know this information and much more is I took a class on the history of Arizona at New Adventures in Learning.
New Adventures offers a wide range of classes from science and technology, to home improvement and gardening, to art and recreation. Each class is taught by volunteers from the membership or the community at large who have a special interest in sharing their knowledge with others. Round table discussions on a variety of topics are also offered as a part of the curriculum. New Adventures gives members the opportunity to learn new information and also to develop new friendships. Members can join an out-to-lunch group that samples various restaurants.
New Adventures is a membership organization. The annual dues are $50. There is no additional per class fee, unless a class involves expenses for materials or admission. Members are automatically enrolled in Chandler/Gilbert Community College. The college charges an additional $15 each semester a student is enrolled in classes.
The college is located at the corner of Riggs Road and Alma School. It is a state of the art air conditioned facility with close, ample parking. Seniors from Sun Lakes, Solera, SunBird and the surrounding area make up the membership. Classes are set up for both year round residents and for snowbirds.
If you are an older adult who wants to keep your brain healthy, if you would like to meet other dynamic seniors who have a wide range of interests, then New Adventures in Learning is for you. Please stop by for a visit at 25105 South Alma School Road or call New Adventures at 480-857-5500. You can also visit our web site at www.newadventures.info.
