What do you focus on at the beginning of a new year? Some of us create New Year’s resolutions, and some of us search out ways to improve our body, our mind, or even our attitude. It is certainly an opportunity to ponder what is working well and what might work better in our life. Let me offer a possibility for your consideration — Reiki.
Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing — physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. Some of the ways it does this is by relaxing us, reducing stress, balancing the body, reducing pain, accelerating healing, and providing a sense of well-being.
Twenty-five years ago, in an attempt to introduce friends to the energy of Reiki, I created the Reiki Circle. It’s a simple concept, really. We meet weekly—Tuesday mornings at 9:30 a.m. at the Cottonwood courtyard in Room A-2. We begin our gathering by sitting in a circle and sharing Reiki “wins,” putting the names of those requesting this energy in the center of our circle and sharing in a guided meditation. After that, massage tables are set up, and we all take turns receiving Reiki and giving as you desire. There is no fee, but we accept love offerings which we share with different charities. This circle is a perfect place for students to practice the Reiki they have learned.
It is not necessary to be trained in Reiki to attend the circle. However, if you are interested in learning how to give Reiki to yourself and others, you could attend a 12-hour class that teaches that. And if you have taken Reiki I, you could choose to deepen your experience of Reiki and learn to send Reiki at a distance through the use of symbols—also a 12-hour class. Teachers for these classes are Rina Cupples at 480-883-7747 or myself, Lois Valleau, at 480-883-6699. Both Rina and Lois teach in their Sun Lakes homes.
I encourage you to come to the Reiki Circle some Tuesday morning at 9:30 a.m. and allow us to introduce you to an amazing, relaxing, soothing energy to support you in your goals. Whatever you choose for 2020, may it be one of your best.
