The Greater Sun Lakes Community Foundation Board of Directors (formerly The Cottonwood Palo Verde Foundation) elected officers for the coming year at its January meeting. Those elected were Chair Richard Hawkes, Vice Chair Frank Gould, Secretary Cheryl Ravenscroft, and Treasurer Jeanne Becker.
The foundation was pleased to present a check in the amount of $2,000 to the Chordaires Show Chorus of Sun Lakes on Jan. 8 in the Mirror Room at Sun Lakes Country Club.
The foundation also approved grant requests at its January meeting from the Sun Lakes Apple Computer Club in the amount of $745, as well as $2,000 from the Sun Lakes Arts and Crafts Association to be used for a new display case. The directors also reviewed a new grant application from the Creative Engagement Partners, which assists families and caregivers for those with Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s.
The Greater Sun Lakes Community Foundation strives to enhance the quality of life in the areas of health, education, and culture for the older population in the East Valley, including all Sun Lakes residents. The foundation will continue to accept grant applications that are doing great things for the elder population.
Lots of really exciting things are happening with the foundation this year. Plans have already begun for the 2020 “Eat, Drink, and Be Merry Gala.” If you attended the gala in December, you know what a fantastic event it was, and if you didn’t attend, you will want to make sure you don’t miss the one planned for next December. So please watch for more information regarding all events!
