New meeting day for Computer Booters

Ted Berenyi shows his Mini Universe.

Computer Booters has moved its meeting day. Due to unexpected conflicts, we had to move to the first Wednesday of each month from September through May. At 6:00 p.m., we have cookies and coffee. At 6:00 p.m., our technical director Allan Levy runs a free one-on-one computer clinic. Come and get your computer questions answered. Meetings begin at 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Sun Lakes Country Club’s Navajo Room, 25601 Sun Lakes Blvd.

At our January meeting, Ted Berenyi (club member) spoke about mathematical modeling – using your PC for more than just surfing the Internet.

What is a utility? An app that performs a specific task and adds functionality to your computer or helps your computer perform better. System monitoring, backing up, system maintenance, password management, virus protection and more – we all have our favorites. At our February meeting, Judy shares some favorite apps in this presentation. Please plan to share one of your favorites during the Q&A part of the meeting. Hopefully, we will all learn about at least one new utility we want to try.

Important information:

The latest set of Windows 7 updates may declare that your machine is not genuine Windows 7. Do nothing or do not apply these updates. Microsoft will fix it eventually.

Previous feature updates for Windows 10 tended to fail if you didn’t have enough free storage for the task. Users had to free up the required space manually before the update could go ahead, but that’s about to change.

In the next big feature update, Version 1903, due out in the spring, Windows 10 will automatically reserve enough space to ensure the update can complete without problems. This might be 7GB, but it could be more, “based on how you use your device.”

The next version of Office, Office 2019, will not run on Windows 7. Other versions, including Office 365 and previous versions of Office (2016, 2013, 2010, etc.) will run on Windows 7.
