News from the Sun Lakes Italian-American Club

Steve Ambroso, President

Ciao! Do you like having fun with a great group of people? Do you like Italian history, genealogy, traditions, and food? If so, the Sun Lakes Italian-American Club might be for you. We have 164 members and have our last monthly meeting of the year on Thursday, May 2, at the Cottonwood San Tan Ballroom. Come check us out. It will cost you $23 for the dinner. You must RSVP to attend.

Our May event will be “The Great Italian Bake-Off.” We will have eight members who will be in an Italian dessert bake-off competition to determine who makes the best Italian dessert. Judges will determine the winner. First place wins $100 and second place wins $50. We will also be playing a lively game of Italian Food Trivia with all the attendees.

Here is a list of some of the monthly topics we have done recently:

• Italian History and Food Trivia

• Italian wine expert

• Discussion about and ranking the best local Italian restaurants

• Christmas Party with opera singers from Arizona Opera Company

• Potluck lunch and bocce ball at Sisk Park

• Queen Creek Olive Mill speaker and tour of the Olive Mill

• Speaker whose father was shot down over Italy during World War II and was rescued by Italian partisans

• A traditional Italian wedding event with a DJ, dancing, and a lot of fun
