It’s that time of year again, back to school. This doesn’t usually create much excitement in Sun Lakes and surrounding communities like SunBird, Springfield, and Solera. We’re mostly older, without many school-aged kids. This year we want “back to school” to mean something good for the rest of us. Starting in September Neighbors Who Care is planning twice a month educational programs to provide important health and living tips. You can meet and interact with your neighbors in a fun atmosphere and, hopefully, learn a little something along the way. All meetings will be at the NWC office, 10450 E. Riggs Rd, Ste 113.

One series, called “Therapeutic Recreation Get-together,” will be presented by Homestead Hospice on the 3rd Wednesday of each month from 1-2 pm. The first meeting, called “Laughter is the Best Medicine” on September 16th, will help you to use joy and laughter to improve your health and outlook.

The second series, “Priority Care Health Education,” will take place from 9-10 a.m. Right now we don’t have a regular day scheduled. The first class will be on Thursday, September 17th and is titled “Medicare Jeopardy, the A B Cs and Ds of Medicare.” It will be a fun way to learn the ins and outs of Medicare enrollment.

Make sure to mark your calendars for the third annual Neighbors Who Care Community Fair on October 24th from 10 am – 2 pm. Last year we had 100 community organizations and vendors participate and over 500 people attend. This year the fair will be even bigger and better. The games, food, and activities for all ages (including the dunk tank) will be back along with a classic car show, bands, and other entertainment. This will be the event of the year in Sun Lakes/south Chandler and you won’t want to miss it.

Here at Neighbors Who Care we’re always looking for new and better ways to help our frail and homebound neighbors, to serve the community at large, and to just be better “neighbors” and we need your help.
