Yup, it is hot on the course and getting hotter. Our earlier starting time is helping, but now is the time to think about hydration. Hydrate the day/night before and during the round. A sports drink is a good choice, as it contains electrolytes. Water is the bare minimum for keeping the fluid levels up during the round. Iced towels or frozen cooling wraps can really help to keep the face and neck cooler.

The Niners are blessed with members who volunteer to do the administrative tasks that keep the league running so well. Our game managers are a great example. Greg Wells is a new game manager. Thanks, Greg. Bill Flinn, who has been our webmaster/player advocate for some time, has resigned to handle some other affairs, and Mike Crewdson has volunteered to step into the job. Accordingly, President Jerry Richards polled the board members, and Mike has been appointed to the position. We thank Bill Flinn for his past work and welcome Mike Crewdson.
The Oakwood courses are undergoing their annual repair/restoration, and this year there is a major project to renovate the bunkers. Ross Buckendahl and his crew are clearing the bunkers and installing a new base, special liners, and new sand. You may see the special liners, but do not worry. When the project is completed, the bunkers will be better able to drain excess water and will remain a fair challenge for our golfers. But, as an old golf pro told me, “Jim, if you don’t like the bunkers, stay out of them.”
