Niners October Golf Results

Jim Wegman, Publicity

It is with great sadness that I report the passing of a former member, Eddie “Fast Eddie” Allen. Eddie was a member from 2014 to 2019 when health issues kept him off the course. Eddie was a very good golfer, but far more important, he was one of the nicest men you would ever want to meet, on or off the course. He had a style all his own, from bright golf clothes to a big, bright smile. Eddie was very proud of his “ace” on Ironwood’s number 13 and another on Sonoran number 3. He never had a bad day on the course.

Eddie was also a sharp pool shooter and a gentleman in all situations. We offer our deepest condolences to his longtime companion Maebell Letcher, Eddie’s son Jerry, and to all the Allen family. Eddie was a one-in-a-million guy.

We have also been advised of the 2022 passing of another longtime Niner, Gordon Graham. Gordon was a member from 2007 to 2021 and a big contributor to the Hamilton Boys Golf Team fundraiser.

Overseeding: The overseeding period is finally over, and we are returning to our Thursday tournaments. It will be cart path only for at least three weeks. Your Executive Board has created a short distance game to help our members play during the cart path only weeks.

Many of our winter golfers have returned, and to them we say welcome back. You will not need those snow shovels in IronOaks.

There was only one play day in October.

Dues: The 2024 membership forms are being distributed, or you can download a copy. Fill out the form completely, attach a check for $110, and place it in the Niners’ mail slot in the Oakwood Pro Shop League Room. It will help our treasurer if the checks arrive early, so please do not wait until the last minute.

Membership. The Niners are growing again, with new member George Yencho and an old, returning member, Bob Hiller. Welcome to both of you. The league has a 100-member cap, so if there are members with friends who are considering joining, do not wait. Get those applications in.

We are entering the holiday season, so from our Executive Board and chairmen, we wish each of you a Happy Thanksgiving Day.
