Jim Wegman, Publicity
The 2016 Golf Expo was a success. The golfers spent thousands of dollars, won gifts and had a great time trying out new golf equipment.
November 3 was opening day. Unfortunately, the weather did not cooperate; rain, wind and hail dampened morning play. Our league fielded 38 intrepid golfers and three guests.
No league golf was scheduled for November 24, 2016.
Sign-up problems – Signing up and then not calling to cancel, or not showing up, is extremely bad form. If this becomes a problem, or a pattern by the same player, there are procedures that may lead to loss of playing privileges.
Membership – Mike Stewart recruited Mike Macek and Tom Delaney. David Mork recruited Brian Kretschman and Phil Hotchkiss. Jim Wegman recruited Earl Peterson. Lloyd Schaeffer recruited Greg Gustafson. Welcome back, Bill Stoutenberg and welcome, Lawrence Burke. Thanks to John Gaudioso and Lloyd Schaeffer for working the Niners table at the Golf Expo. We displayed Bill Whitley’s logo sign and attracted a number of potential members. John and Lloyd, your efforts brought new member, Jim Johnson. “Fast Eddie” Allen recruited Jim Martin. A big Niners welcome to our new members and, thanks to the recruiters, we now have 85 members.
The welcome back luncheon was held at the Oakwood Clubhouse on November 17 and our hungry golfers enjoyed a tasty Italian meal or a big salad, thanks to Vice President Joe Sigillo. The 50/50 raffle bolstered our funds by $ 150 and Max Black and Pat O’Connell left with $ 75 each. Thanks to the guys who made this event a success: Jim Janowski and Jim Theobald, our 50-/50 ticket sellers, Niners photographer Bruce McCorkle for the league photo album and the donation of golf related books for prizes. Mike Stewart pitched in with a new driver and a sand wedge for prizes and Jim Theobald brought all the guys a 2017 calendar. Bill Slattery gave the dates for the 2017 tournaments and Vice President Joe Sigillo presented the financial statement prepared by Treasurer Lloyd Schaeffer.
