November Rains Played Havoc with Softball Season

Our Fall Softball Season schedule of games was shortened due to the unusual amount of November rainfall. We lost a dozen games and several practice sessions due to the downpours and the resulting unplayable field. At the press deadline for this issue of the Splash, we had close pennant races in both divisions. In the Lakes Division, the Young Home Team Realtors held a slim, one-game lead over the A-1 Golf Carts squad and the First Response Roofers. In the Sun Division, Camp Hilby was one game ahead of both the Redeemed Team and Spooner PT.

Jay Yoakum led the Lakes Division in both home runs (5) and average (.877). Other top hitters were Rene Vallieres (.776), Bill Jacobson (.769), Doug Warwick (.760), and Dan Malachuk (.750).

Gino Fiasche led the Sun Division with 15 long balls. George Siegele had 12 homers, while Dong Long had 10. George also led that circuit in average (.818). Rounding out the top five were Jon Hendrikse (.804), Barron Liebert (.810), Brian Denham (.778), and Don Long (.761).

Up-to-date standings and stats for both divisions can be found on the Stats page of our website www.sunlakessoftball.com. Our Fall Season ran through Dec. 19. Following a break for the holidays, our Winter Season opens on Jan. 6.
