On April 11, our Oakwood Niners group welcomed 24 from the Cottonwood Lady Niners; this was organized by Julie Schneider, who is a member of both Cottonwood/Oakwood groups. A total of 57 ladies played. It was a beautiful morning for our “mixer.” We started with breakfast snacks, then we all headed out to the Sonoran course playing a Step Aside Scramble. Play was followed by a social hour of soft drinks, adult beverages, croissant sandwiches plus veggies and chips. Everyone had a great time, with the promise to do it again next year.
April 18 was a beautiful day for golf on Sonoran and our final “official” luncheon of the 2016-2017 season. (Please see separate article for winners in State Medallion, Jo Williams and Cup Championship.) The winners in the Scramble were First Place: Fran Kelly, Linda Trisch, Patty Partridge and Dottie Meade; Cora Lathom-Levensky. Molly Bergesen, Susan Meer and Suzan Miller came in second, and third place went to Denise Fleshner, Bea Cannon, Tuny O’Rourke and Denise Lott. Play that day was followed by a wonderful luncheon, arranged by Mary Swanson and Dolly Giallonardo.
The Palms course was our “challenge” on April 25. Judging from the scores, it appears that most of our members were more than “up” for the course! Flight #1 had Erika Tiepel in first, followed by Cora Levensky and Nancy Heberling in second, with Joyce Parker coming in third. Helen Semple, Nancy Lienenbrugger and Linda Trisch led the Flight #2 group in first, followed closely by Suevonne Negaard and JoAnn Zerwekh in second, and third place was won by six ladies: Deborah Greenwood, Linda Pettis, Barbara Stewart, Rachel Enloe, Sheila Bossio and Kathy Chebuhar. Ursula Bird recorded first place in Flight #3, following in second by Dotti Meade and Sharon Gale in third.
The May 3 event was an “even holes/low net” scoring. On Flight #1, Sandy Krediet placed first, with Ila Kraayenbrink in second and Shirley Malick in third. Kathy Chebuhar took first in Flight #2, with Margaret Johns, Helen Semple and Pat Stead following in second and Susan Meer in third. Flight #3 was led by Dottie Meade in first, with Sharon Gale and Rachel Enloe in second, and third place was Julia Collier, Barbara Stewart and Ursula Bird.
During the Splash publication months of July, August and September, we will not be publishing any results/events, etc. We will resume in October.
To all the Lady Niners who are “snowbirds” and heading “home,” travel safe, be well and see you in the fall. To those Niners who are here most of the summer, with travels in between, remember to keep your head down and, most of all, have a healthy and safe summer.
Golf Tip of the Month: Always carry an extra ball and at least two ball markers in your pocket. Be prepared!
