January’s cold didn’t stop the Oakwood Lady Niners from enjoying golf on Tuesday mornings. But it may have speeded up play – Niners seemed especially eager to enjoy a warm lunch together afterwards.

On January 12 a jungle-themed New Year’s luncheon and the annual general meeting followed a scramble won by Bea Cannon, Susan O’Connell, Clarisse Zornes and Linda Trisch. Animal print decorations set the mood while posters of animals joking about golf got us laughing.

At the meeting, amendments to the constitution were passed with thanks to Pattie Wigton and volunteers who reviewed it and proposed necessary changes. President Barbara Stewart asked for volunteers to learn how to assist long-time Pairings Chairs Sheila Bossio and Sally Spangler and Scorers Reggie Wegman and Madeline Walker.

January 19 brought a low gross game on the Lakes, one of three games counting towards the Club Championship. Flight 1: 1st Cora Lathom-Levensky, 2nd Sandy Krediet and Helen Semple; Flight 2: 1st Sandy Johnson, 2nd Julie Schneider, 3rd Patty Partridge and LInda Trisch; Flight 3: 1st Susan Schaeffer, 2nd Susan Meer, Susie Cook and Sheila Bossio.

On January 26, the low gross and net game on the Sonoran counted for both the Jo Williams Low Net Championship and as the second State Medallion game. Flight 1: 1st M.J. Coking, 2nd Bonnie Tasch and Cora Lathom-Levensky; Flight 2: 1st Sharon Johnson, 2nd Linda Liberti, Julie Schneider, Reggie Wegman and Judy Hedding; Flight 3: 1st Ann Rounthwaite, 2nd Edna Joss, Linda Trisch.

On February 2 we played the Lakes and got a break – we didn’t have to count even-numbered holes. Winners of the odd-numbered holes were Flight 1: 1st Joyce Parker, 2nd Cora Lathom-Levensky and Phyllis Madison; Flight 2: 1st Helen Semple and Linda Trisch, 2nd Madeline Walker; Flight 3: 1st Julia Collier, 2nd Colleen Duke, 3rd Sharon Gale and Clarisse Zorns.

Warm weather finally returned on February 9 when we enjoyed the third low net State Medallion game on the Sonoran. Flight 1: 1st Phyllis Madison, 2nd M.J. Coking and Nancy Heberling; Flight 2: 1st Kathy Chebuhar, 2nd Georgeann Bell; 3rd Pat Stead, Debra Burns, Mary Medved and Sheila Bossio; Flight 3: 1st Julia Colier; 2nd Deborah Poropat; 3rd Annette Carrington

AWGA representative Denise Fleshner modeled the new team shirt this month. Members wanting to order one should speak to Denise. March 1 is the deadline to register for Bye, Bye, Birdie, the March 8 Member/Guest day. Registration and continental breakfast begin at 8:00 a.m. with tee off at 9:30 a.m., followed by lunch and prizes. Wear your best feathered outfit, hat or anything in keeping with the theme.

It’s great golfing weather and a good time to join the Oakwood Lady Niners Golf Association. We welcome golfers of all abilities, including beginning and novice golfers interested in improving their game, while learning golf rules and etiquette in a fun-filled environment. We offer the options of playing from the 150-yard marker in our GEMS group, or of becoming a Social Member.
