On March 10 the Oakwood Lady Niners Golf Association hosted a very successful Member/Guest day, raising $1700 for local charities. After donating those funds to Neighbors Who Care and A Perfect Place, the OLNGA returned its focus to golf. Low net and gross games were scheduled to determine the club’s championship and AWGA State Medallion team. But these competitions didn’t interfere with Niners’ enjoyment of playing with a fun, supportive group of women. And whether in the running for awards or not, all league members wanting to socialize enjoyed lunch after golf at Oakwood’s Poolside Grill.
During April golfers had an opportunity to explore the new OLNGA website designed by Membership and Handicaps Chair Bonnie Tasch. Bonnie has previously served as president and social chair. As membership chair she registers new members and notifies Niners so everyone can welcome them. As handicaps chair she sends scores to the AWGA and maintains handicap records. Now in her 11th year in the league, Bonnie still finds new ways to contribute. This year she created the new website to save the OLNGA site hosting fees, so the OLNGA website will still be running on a self-hosting service such as hostiserver.com and others provide, Bonnie, however, designed the website herself!
In her career as project manager for a land developer Bonnie began working with computers in 1981. While she downplays her computer skills, she acquired sufficient proficiency to design an attractive and user-friendly OLNGA site on a free website builder. The new site has a clean, uncluttered look. An orange, aqua and black color scheme gives it a bold and energetic feel. The site is easy to navigate and offers a photo gallery in addition to all the information league members need. We’re grateful to Bonnie for this initiative.
After the April shakedown period the executive board anticipates migrating completely to the new site. Members are encouraged to visit it during the summer in order to obtain updates on championships, handicaps and photographs and to get comfortable using the site. Find it at http://oakwoodladyniners.wix.com/olnga.

During the summer OLNGA members simply play together early on Tuesday mornings, without any league scoring. It’s a good time to join and get to know year-round golfers in relaxed play. For more information call Barbara Stewart at 480-883-3008.
