OLNGA news

OLNGA’s new slate of officers for 2019 is as follows: President Denise Lott, Vice President Jacque Smith, Secretary Helen Semple, Treasurer Rachel Enloe. Thanks so much to all for volunteering for these important positions.

Please welcome new members to OLNGA: Sharlene Stewart, Laurie Olsen, Kathy Siegrist, Donna Pratt, Susan Meitz and Robyn Moody. (Also, I made an error on one of our new member’s name: correct is Susan Malloy.) Also, welcome back to OLNGA to Bea Cannon and Carol Lorenz. So far this year, we have added 22 new players, and three former members have “returned.” We couldn’t be more excited about all the new members and our season ahead.

Tuesday, November 27, saw the OLNGA players head out to the Sonoran course in search of “low net.” Winners were Flight #1: 1st Joyce Parker, 2nd Erika Tiepel, 3rd Cora Lathom-Levensky; Flight #2: 1st (tie) Mary Evans and Nancy Lienenbrugger, 2nd Linda Liberti, 3rd Phyllis Madison; Flight #3: 1st (3-way tie) Sheila Bossio, Tuny O’Rourke and Lola Bernadelli, 2nd Colleen Duke, 3rd Hazel Ludwig.

On Tuesday, December 4, after playing a scramble on The Lakes Course, OLNGA had our annual Christmas/Holiday Luncheon, along with an “Ugly Christmas Sweater Contest.” The competition was fierce; the three winners were Donna Pratt, Mary Swanson and Chloe Hanken. Everyone got a lot of laughs about all the really ugly sweaters. Our luncheon of chicken crepes was wonderful. Oakwood did a fantastic job!

There seems to be some confusion about what a player does if they have signed up to play golf but find out a day before play that they cannot OR someone wants to add themselves “at the last minute.” Here’s the scoop on how to handle either issue: There is an Add/Cancel Line – 480-317-3650, Option #3 Add: Call, before noon on Sunday, leave your name, phone number and date you wish to play. (Calling later than Sunday noon will place you in “space available” — a person from the Pairings Committee will call you directly if there is room for you to play.) Cancel: Call 317-3650, Option 3. Leave your name, phone number and the date you cannot play. Be sure to also call the Pro Shop at 480-895-1157, Option 7 to let them know you won’t be able to play.

Tip of the Day: Since it’s the middle of winter and frost is likely some mornings, remember to call the Pro Shop, Option 6, and get the latest update on frost and course conditions.
