“Oy’ to the World”–A Musical Hanukkah Revue

Sarah Marks

Long before Sarah Marks moved to Sun Lakes, she was enjoying the Jewish traditions of Hanukkah, celebrated with family and friends. December meant spinning dreidels (toy tops) and cooking latkes (potato pancakes). Those traditions eventually turned into designing and sewing Hanukkah outfits for her two granddaughters. Today, Marks’ creative spirit is still going strong. You can often find her in the art rooms at Sun Lakes, crafting, modeling ceramics, sewing, or making jewelry. Now, this skilled costumer is bringing her talents to the local production of Oy’ to the World: A Hanukkah Revue Returns, supplying props and outfits for the show.

The family connection makes this production even more special. Oy to the World was conceived and directed by local theater artists Rebecca and Josh Weinstein, Sarah and Norman’s daughter and her husband. Created as a joyful, inclusive alternative to the abundance of Christmas programming that fills the holiday season, the show celebrates Hanukkah and Jewish culture through songs, skits, stories, comedy, and live music.

This year, the show returns refreshed and reimagined! Audience feedback helped shape an updated production featuring new songs, fresh comedic moments, and a stronger, more engaging script, all while preserving the heart and humor audiences loved.

Featuring four talented professional singers and four skilled musicians on piano, percussion, guitar, and woodwinds, Oy to the World is much more than a holiday concert. It is a lively celebration of Jewish identity, community, and belonging, with plenty of music, laughter, and the joy of seeing our stories represented on stage.

Co-presented by The Bridge Initiative and ASU Kerr Cultural Center in Scottsdale, this special production is funded by a grant from the Center for Jewish Philanthropy of Greater Phoenix.
