Playing with the Palo Verde Couples League is more than just pars, birdies, and eagles. Oh sure, we all try hard to sink those 12 foot putts and give it our all to be on the green in regulation. But, there’s more!
Happy hour mid-day with people you’ve known for years or someone who has just moved in and joined the league is one of the best parts of the game. Golf is more than an individual and sometimes team sport for all ages. It is a social game. No matter the score, this happy hour is priceless.
Sometimes the conversation is about golf, sometimes a report on someone’s recent European River Cruise or a new steakhouse nearby, and, on occasion, discussion of the pros and cons of recent HOA changes. Needless to say, it is never boring. You learn from these conversations. Often an opinion contrary to your own is better understood and makes you a better person for understanding. Who doesn’t want to be a better person?
There are those who cannot stay because someone has to let the dog out. That’s OK. But next time, if you can, go in for happy hour with your foursome and enjoy a mid-day happy hour. Those pictured partake of this routine frequently and you are always welcome to join. Some pull tables together—the more the merrier.
Your intrepid reporter will be guilty of dereliction of duty for Splash articles in August and September. Keep the home fires burning, and I’ll report again in October.
