We couldn’t have such a good time on the links Wednesday afternoons without our friendly and very knowledgeable golf pros at Palo Verde, Joey Jones and Chris Evins.

What is the easiest shot in golf? The practice swing! And we ladies are getting better at that and usually at the real swing, too! At least we are all missing the ball much closer now. And laughing all the way!
December was a short month for us, since Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve were both on our Wednesday golf day. We were glad our pros were able to have that afternoon off, though. They always work hard and deserved a break.
On Dec. 3 we played the game O.N.E.S. Here we competed for best score on the holes starting with those letters. Therefore, we used 1, 6, 7, 8, and 9. Sheryl Haugeberg got first place with a score of 22. Second place was Lou Ann Wagner with 25, and tied for third were Kathy Knudson and Ilene Ouradnik with a score of 26. Good golfing, gals!
On Dec. 10 we played the T’s and F’s games. In this game we score only the holes that begin with the letters T and F. (2, 3, 4, and 5). The winners with the lowest score of 12 were Pam Mason, Kathy Lorenz, Penny Flynn, Sheryl Haugeberg, Mary Billideau, Andrea Steinhaeusser, and Rosann Soczka. What a tie for first that turned out to be!
The game on Dec. 17 was Fewest Putts. The strategy here was to drive your ball just off the green before you took your first putt. The winner was Sheryl Haugeberg with only 14 putts. Since I played with Sheryl, I know that she had a 1 putt on one hole. Wow! Tied for second were Penny Flynn and Amy Torregrossa with 15 putts. Well done, ladies!
We are all anticipating a happy 2026 with dreams and hopes of better scores on the links! If you are looking for a low-key 9-hole golfing group for ladies, PVLN may just be what you want. We play on Wednesdays at 2:30 p.m. with a social hour afterward on the Palo Verde patio. If you are looking for positive support and many laughs, you need to join us! Call the Pro Shop at Palo Verde to sign up.
