The Palo Verde Lady Niners golf on Wednesdays starting at 2:30 p.m. for twilight play. During the month of January, we were only able to play on three of those Wednesdays due to rain (again), but on those days we came out in very strong numbers! In fact, our membership has grown to nearly 50 women who are now official members of this informal ladies’ league. What do you do to become a member? Fill out a brief form and pay $10, which will be used for the end of the year party and gifts for the pros who help organize our league.
We played a variety of games in January, which kept our golf fun and focused. Most of us agree that we don’t need therapy, just a consistent swing. And these winners have achieved that goal:
On Jan. 14 the game goal was Low Net: 1st place with a score of 38, Andrea Steinhaeusser; 2nd place Sabine Koschnik at 40; and 3rd place, scoring 41, was Penny Flynn. Great playing, gals! Many of us scored much higher!
On Jan. 21 we played a Blind 5 game where the pros choose the holes to score. The winners were: 1st Andrea Steinhaeusser with 22, 2nd Sheryl Haugeberg with 23, and 3rd place was Marilyn Billideau scoring 24. Looks like some of you might be headed to the Pro Circuit soon.
Jan. 28 had us playing a game of Fewest Putts. The following winners used good strategies to keep putts low: 1st place Patti Forsythe and Kathy Lorenz tied with 14 putts, 2nd place Amy Torregrossa with 15 putts, and nine ladies scored 17 to tie for third place!
Of course, the most fun part of the play is our 10th (watering) hole where we all meet on the Palo Verde patio to eat, drink, and be merry! Mostly we have more laughs about some of our outrageous or tremendous shots of the day. I know for myself that if the ball goes where I am looking, it is purely accidental!
If you would like to have a leisurely and fun golf game, think about joining us on Wednesday afternoons at Palo Verde. You will have a good time and make new golfing friends. If you want to start golfing, this is the group for you. We are all friendly and supportive. Call the Pro Shop or stop in to sign up by Tuesday of each week.
