June flew by and I guess the old adage, “Time flies when you’re having fun” is correct. Our month started with a Select-A-Drive format on the 13th and the winning team with a score of 88 was Gene Wenger, Milt Olsen, Bill Saxton and Marcel Grossman.

On June 20 we had our annual Cottonwood and Palo Verde Beat the Pro/Super Tournament. Four man teams comprised of both Palo Verde and Cottonwood members played a Scramble against two of our Pros and two of our course supers at our Palo Verde Course this year. The Pros/Supers had a total net score of 47.5, 14.5 under par. Thanks to our much larger handicaps, 13 teams beat the Pros/Supers in net scores.

On the 27th we played a Two Man Alternate Shot format, flighted. The winning team in the first flight was Mike Tennant and Cliff Joyes with a score of 51-1/2; the second flight winners were Charlie Sivertson and Joe Lombardo with a winning score of 56. On July 4 we did not have a game because of the holiday.

Another one of our members has passed away; Bernard Kelley, husband of Joan Kelley, passed away on June 29. Our deepest sympathies and prayers go to Joan and her family.

Our August calendar of events include a Scramble format on the 1st. On the 6th and the 8th we will be playing our annual summer event with Oakwood in which two players from Oakwood and two players from Palo Verde comprise each team. On the 15th we will be playing a Blind Draw One Best Ball Net format and on the 22nd we will be playing a Two Man Team, One Best Ball Net flighted format. Our final Saturday of August, the 29th, we will be playing a Three Best Balls Net, Ace of Aces.
