With the coming of September, we saw the return of cooler temperatures and the beginning of the snowbird migration, returning from cooler climes.
There was a full month of golf activities, beginning with a Select-a-Drive 2 Best Ball contest on Sept. 7. The winning team was comprised of Cliff Joyes, Royal Carlson, Richard Hair, and Keith Wilson. Second place went to John Mitchell, Don Hicks, Paul Hester, and Hal Newton.
On Saturday, Sept. 14, an individual Stableford competition was held. The first flight was won by Steve Ryland, followed by Tony Hames, Mike Rufert, Rick Smith, Daryl Ramseyer, and Vaughn Torgersen. The Second Flight was won by Tom Jeub with a tie for second between Rick Swindler, Paul Hester, and Jay Hamlin.
On Sept. 28, a 2-Net Best Ball contest was held. First place went to the team of Dick Howell, Don Hicks, Rick Swindler, and Larry Guild with a score of 99. There was a four-way tie for second place at 101.
This was the last competition of the 2018-2019 golf year, with the Palo Verde course closing for overseeding. The course reopened on Monday, Oct. 21, with the promise of another great year of golfing fun.
Two dates of note as we approach the holiday season and the beginning of a new golf year:
Saturday, Dec. 7, is the date of the PVMGA Dinner/Dance Christmas Party to be held at the Palo Verde clubhouse. The cost is $40 per person. Look for a sign-up sheet on the club bulletin board.
November is the month to renew your PVMGA membership. Sign up by Dec. 1 to avoid a $5 AGA dues increase. Application forms are available on the PVMGA site. We would invite all those interested in joining our very active, friendly, and fun group to visit the website or the PV pro shop.
