We now have more groups opening their doors again and have welcomed us back to collect food for Matthew’s Crossing. Since January of 2008, we have collected food and money from several groups and delivered it to Matthew’s Crossing.
We were unable to continue to collect after everything closed due to the pandemic. After a long year and a half, we were able to restart collections in July 2021. Some of our groups have opened their doors. Since July, we have collected 209 pounds of food and $797 from the Bridge Club. We have collected 24 pounds of food and $1,350 from Unity of Sun Lakes. From the food collection box at Sun Lakes Country Club, we collected 249 pounds of food. The total for four months of collection is 482 pounds of food and $2,147.
Seniors remain one of the most vulnerable in our community. COVID-19 has only compounded the problem. Matthew’s Crossing initiated the Senior Doorstep program to deliver food to the doorstep of our most vulnerable. This is just one of the programs Matthew’s Crossing has initiated to cover the many groups it helps.
Matthew’s Crossing is a 501(c)(3) community-based non-profit organization that serves the working poor.
Also opening to the public on the first Tuesday (a change from Monday) of each month is the Bridge Club. Pickups there take place at the Risen Savior Lutheran Church on Alma School Road from 12:30 to 1:20 p.m. At this location, we are able to take food and cash donations. There is also a collection box in Sun Lakes Country Club by the reception desk. You can drop food off daily at that location.
If the drop-off places are inconvenient, please consider a donation to Matthew’s Crossing Food Bank directly. Any amount would be so appreciated. Their address is 1368 Arizona Avenue, #112, Chandler, AZ 85225.
