Reach Out Sun Lakes: June + Triple-Digit Temps = Danger of Dehydration

Many of our Splash readers probably remember the mega-hit song of the Bee Gees, “Stayin’ Alive.” When our daytime temperature here in the desert rises to the triple digits, our first line of defense is to be and remain well hydrated at all times in order to “Stay Alive.” It all comes down to this: Consume sufficient fluids in order to keep singing “Stayin’ Alive.” We are in the midst of the big season change for us, with the conclusion of a very cool spring and the beginning of what could be a “toasty” summer, as our friendly broadcast meteorologists like to frame it. This change of weather and the end of K-12 school district instruction terms changes the demand for water and drinks and the aggregate quantity of food being required at food banks, because the children are not in school where many receive one or two meals a day when schools are open.

This is how our community provides an important role. Reach Out Sun Lakes is your Sun Lakes-based partner that serves both Sun Lakes residents and Matthew’s Crossing by picking up food and donations from clubs and organizations and delivering them to Matthew’s Crossing. Reach Out Sun Lakes will also pick up your donations at your home as an alternative means to make the donation process as easy as possible for you, our Sun Lakes neighbors. Please contact us using the contact information below to arrange a pickup time that is convenient for you.

Following are the organizations that partner with us and the days and times to donate through them:

• Sun Lakes Country Club in the clubhouse at the service desk. Donations can be made during their normal working hours.

• Sun Lakes Duplicate Bridge Club at Risen Savior Lutheran Church in the south parking lot. Donations will be accepted on Tuesday, June 11, between 12:30 and 1:30 p.m.

• Democratic Club of Sun Lakes at Sun Lakes Country Club in the side parking lot area with covered parking. Donations for June can be made on Monday, June 10, between 6:30 and 7 p.m.

• Unity Church: If you or someone you know is a member of this faith, their weekly collection is taken on Sundays at 10 a.m.

To schedule a home pickup, schedule a visit to Matthew’s Crossing, or if you have questions, please contact me, Jim Meagher of Reach Out Sun Lakes, by email at [email protected] or by phone at 630-346-1966.
