On Sunday, November 15, the congregation of Risen Savior Lutheran Church will be donating frozen turkeys and checks to assist the Chandler Food Bank in helping less-fortunate families in our community prepare turkey dinners on Thanksgiving.
Invites Sun Lakes Community Participation
Once again, Risen Savior is also inviting their neighbors in the Sun Lakes community to join in sharing their blessings by donating a small- to-medium size frozen turkey. The turkeys should cost about $15 to $20 each. For people who wish to donate, but prefer not to directly purchase a frozen turkey, the Food Bank will gladly accept checks in any amount which will be used to buy turkeys. The need is great. Last year, the Food Bank distributed more than 600 turkeys in food boxes. Thanks to the enthusiastic response by Risen Savior members and Sun Lakes residents, the 2014 Thanksgiving Turkey Drive contributed over half of those turkeys through donations of cash and frozen turkeys.
Together We Can Make a Substantial Difference
Rev. Ron Burcham, Senior Pastor of Risen Savior commented, “We know that as individuals we can make a difference, but if we pool our resources and join together as one, we can have a substantial impact in Chandler neighborhoods on Thanksgiving.”
This year, the turkey drive will be managed by the Risen Savior Men’s Group, which is led by Chuck Deuth, a Sun Lakes resident who is a passionate advocate for sharing God’s blessings by providing food assistance to our neighbors in need, many of whom are struggling just to put food on the table.
Turkeys and checks will be received at the Risen Savior parking lot on Sunday, November 15 from 2:00-4:30 p.m. There will be a refrigerated truck from the Food Bank on site to collect the turkeys. All donors will receive a receipt for their tax-deductible donations.
Those who wish to donate, but are unable to attend on November 15 may mail their checks to Risen Savior Lutheran Church, 23914 S. Alma School Rd., Chandler, AZ 85248. Please make the check payable to the Chandler Christian Community Center, the parent of the Chandler Food Bank. Also, please write Attention: Turkey Drive on the envelope; 100 percent of donations and turkeys received will be given directly to the Chandler Food Bank for their emergency food boxes.
