Road Rover Ramblers jazz band to perform at the January Arizona Classic Jazz Society event on January 17

Helen Daley

The Road River Ramblers will be performing for the January Arizona Classic Jazz Society event on Sunday, January 17. They formed as a Dixieland band in 2007 and consist of Richard Cook – Trombone, Mike Blommer – Cornet, Zack Brennan – Clarinet, Doug O’Brien – Banjo/Vocals, John Prokop – Tuba and Bob Kruse – Drums.

Classic Jazz is most associated with New Orleans-style Jazz that had its beginnings in the late 1800s and early 1900s and transitioned into Swing in the 1930s. The music is very danceable. It is also known by such names as Traditional Jazz (especially its west coast revival in mid-century), Dixieland, Chicago-style (close to Swing with more individual solos), Kansas City-style, Hot Jazz (Louis Armstrong’s Hot Five and Hot Seven bands) and then Swing.

Come and join the fun and welcome the Ramblers at the Crowne Plaza San Marcos Golf Resort, One San Marcos Place in Chandler on January 17. The cost is $10 for ACJS members; $15 non-members (become a member on the 17th and get in free; yearly membership $35 couple, single $25).
