Sun Lakes Rotary and Sew-N-Sews Partnership Continues

The Rotary Club of Sun Lakes’ (RCSL) partnership with the Sun Lakes Sew-N-Sews has begun its third year with a $1,000 check presentation. Rotarians from RCSL’s Peacebuilder Committee and Sew-N-Sews Children’s Charities Committee members gathered to celebrate their third year of working together to lovingly create handmade comfort items for Amanda Hope Rainbow Angels pediatric cancer patients, children in foster care from Child Crisis Center of Arizona, and the Chandler Police Department. Each year this partnership produces hundreds of items designed, sewn, and donated to children in need of a smile. Items include crayon/coloring book totes, race track totes, spring baskets, and 18-inch dolls with wardrobes.

Rotarians Are People of Action

Rotary Club of Sun Lakes (RCSL) Rotarians delivered 2,300 pounds of bulk food and 40 gift bags to CUSD Galveston Elementary School. This community service project will serve 40 families in need. This is the third year that RCSL has completed this project. In 2023, 20 families were served, and in 2024, 30 families were served. The Rotary Club of Sun Lakes extends congratulations to Sun Lakes resident Peter Meade who was named Rotary Club of Sun Lakes’(RCSL) December 2025 Rotarian of the Month (ROM). Since joining RCSL in October of 2016, Peter has served as club president, serves leadership roles in the club’s annual golf tournament, as well as leads the club’s technology support, PolioPlus campaigns/raffles, and upcoming activity emails. He participates each year in Healing Veterans motorcycle rides and monthly delivers the Splash newspaper. Peter is a Rotary International Foundation Major Donor.

Rotary: Teachers of the Month

The Rotary Club of Sun Lakes (RCSL) congratulates Carolyn Cofoid, Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) teacher at CUSD Andersen Junior High School, for being named RCSL November 2025 Teacher of the Month. Carolyn helps prepare and tutor 7th and 8th grade students for college readiness and success in a global society. Macy Foster, who nominated Carolyn, stated that Carolyn is dedicated, organized, and an accessible role model to her students, as well as she provides an innovative, adaptable, and inclusive, safe environment.
RCSL congratulates Jeffrey Conger, 5th grade teacher at CUSD Frye Elementary School, for being named RCSL October 2025 Teacher of the Month. Jeffrey has been a teacher for four years. When nominating Jeffrey, Principal Alexis stated that Jeffrey is an enthusiastic, dedicated, patient, and inspiring teacher who allows students to feel valued and supported.

Supports Veterans During the Holidays

On Veterans Day, Rotary Club of Sun Lakes (RCSL) President Ed Anderson presented Mark Pearlstein of Arizona Veterans Fly Fishing with RCSL’s $500 check to support the organization’s mission. Arizona Veterans Fly Fishing is a not-for-profit organization that is designed to help facilitate the physical and emotional well-being of disabled veterans through fly fishing and related activities.
Also, at the same event, RCSL Rotarian Gary Kay presented Captain Bill Wooster and Sheri Hanson of the Arizona Patriot Guard Riders-Yuletide 4 Heroes with RCSL’s $500 check and gift certificates to support the Arizona Patriot Guard Riders’ Yuletide 4 Heroes Christmas Adopt-A-Family program, gifting presents and food to veterans, active-duty military, law enforcement, and first responder families in need.
