Rounding the Bases?

Eleven years ago, when the Field of Dreams became the Field of Streams!

If you’ve driven past the Field of Dreams recently, you’ve probably noticed that no one is currently rounding the bases. That’s because this is the time of the year for overseeding the outfield grass. We’re also doing an infield restoration and upgrade. During this period, there are no scheduled games or practices at the field; however, we do have batting practice and pick-up games at Snedigar Park every Tuesday and Thursday morning through Oct. 23.

There was also no rounding the bases back in September of 2014 when the Field of Dreams became the “Field of Streams;” that is, unless you had a rowboat or wanted to try to swim around the bases! We could use a little of that rain now! We had a similar flooding event in 2018. In both instances, it took a while to get the field back in shape, but at least we didn’t have to water the grass for a while!

Registration for the upcoming Fall Season takes place during the first two weeks of October at Snedigar Park. Opening day at the Field of Dreams is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 28, with the first pitch at 9 a.m. As of press time, we had seven of eight team manager positions filled. Thanks to Ron Carmichael, Mike Gloyd, Gary Hillabolt, Marty Hobby, Dave Kratz, Kim Van Nausdle, and Kim Whitney for stepping up to the plate.

Thanks to Dr. Jason Campbell for continuing LightRenew’s advertising at the Field of Dreams. Go to lightrenew.com to learn about their services. We also have links to all our team sponsors and other billboard advertisers on the Sponsors page of our website www.sunlakessoftball.com. Remember to support the companies that support the Sun Lakes communities! We have a couple of open spaces for new advertisers. For additional information, the Sponsors page has a link to our Advertising Banner brochure on the right side of the page.

We were shocked and saddened to learn of the recent passing of Frank Tanner. Frank had been an integral part of our association since 2008. Frank and his wife Lynn were Canadian “snowbirds” whose second home is in Cottonwood. Our heartfelt condolences go out to Lynn, their families, and many friends. He will be sorely missed.
