Once again the Scandinavian Club will be celebrating its heritage on Sunday, February 15. A very special program is planned as the Consulate of Sweden (Arizona) will be our guest speaker. C. Mattias Stolpe is the Honorary Consul for the Swedish Consulate in Phoenix. His jurisdiction is for the state of Arizona. The Consulate facilitates and promotes the interest of the Government of Sweden with the state of Arizona.
As in past years a highlight of the evening is the sharing of Scandinavian artifacts by club members. Several tables will be dedicated to the display. This is an excellent opportunity to view a large number of items. Members and guests who display their treasures should be sure to label or tag them. There were many on display in February of last year.
There will be a change in our menu for the Heritage Dinner. Rather than having a prepared dinner served, we will have a typical Scandinavian smorgasbord/potluck dinner. Members and guests are asked to bring a serving for at least eight people. While we delight in Scandinavian dishes, dishes of all and any ethnic background are welcome. Just as in the old days, it will be necessary to bring your place setting of a plate and silverware. Coffee will be provided.
Anyone with interest in Scandinavian heritage or its history is invited. There is a $5 fee for non-members. Just remember to bring a food dish. You can get more information by calling Sue Jordan at 895-5691.
The evening begins with a no host cocktail hour (herring, cheese and crackers provided) at 5:00 p.m. in the Arizona Room at the Sun Lakes Country Club. At 6:00 p.m. we will begin to fill our plates with the many delicious items provided by the members and guests. After dinner we plan to interview one or more of our members about their Scandinavian heritage. We will then hear from our guest.
