Scandinavian Club to meet on March 20

Lyle Replogle

The club had its annual Scandinavian Heritage event in February when many who attended shared their Scandinavian artifacts with us. We were pleased to have Svein Jenshus, a resident of Sun Lakes, relate his experience as an immigrant from Norway with us. Mr. Jenshus also shared much of his knowledge of Scandinavia. Our meal consisted of Swedish meatballs and white fish, both Scandinavian specialties. For dessert, those who attended brought cupcakes that were shared amongst the many tables.

So soon it seems we are now planning for the last meeting of our 2015/2016 year on March 20. We have once again had very well attended meetings. We typically have been serving some 80 dinners at each of our meetings. When we had Scandinavian exchange students in January we served 97 meals. Our thanks to Sun Lakes Country Club for providing us not only with good meals but also a superb meeting place for our club. The club has been meeting at Sun Lakes Country Club for some 30 years and is one of the older ethnic clubs in the area.

We will continue with our emphasis on Scandinavia in March. Our speaker for the evening will be Joacim Mattison of the Swedish-American Chamber of Commerce. This should be a special evening as Mr. Mattisson shares information with us about Sweden. He has prepared an overview of the immigration/fugitive situation as well as an overview of the business climate in Sweden compared to the U.S. He also plans to focus on some of the legislative differences and taxation.

As a bonus, Mr. Mattison’s father is visiting from Sweden and plans to attend the meeting as well. The social hour beginning at 5:00 p.m. will provide a wonderful opportunity for those in attendance to meet Mr. Mattison and his father.

We always look forward to dinner. Dinner will be served at 6:00 p.m. At 7:00 p.m. Mr. Mattison will address the club. Our all-inclusive dinner (that includes coffee and tip) is $15 for members who have paid the annual dues of $15. Dinner for non-members and guests is $20.

Reservations for dinner on March 20 are required and MUST BE PREPAID if one has not paid their annual dues. Checks payable to Scandinavian Club can be mailed to Sue Jordan at 8910 E. Ohio Avenue, Sun Lakes, AZ 85248. Payment must be received no later than Monday, March 14. We would suggest that payment be mailed no later than Thursday, March 10.
