Scandinavian Club news

Jeanne Moorhead, Vice President

The Scandinavian Club of the Southeast Valley is looking forward to another enjoyable evening on Sunday, January 22 at Sun Lakes Country Club. We welcome new members and guests as we share our heritage. Scandinavian Club celebrates Sweden, Norway and Denmark, along with Finland and Iceland and honors our status as Americans. Membership is $15 per year.

The social hour, with a mixer, cash bar, and appetizers of pickled herring, cheese and crackers, begins at 5:00 p.m. with a delicious dinner served at 6:00 p.m. and a program at 7:00 p.m. Our program this month will be presented by Cheryl Jones, manager at Departures Travel Agency in Gilbert. Cheryl has arranged trips to Scandinavia for members in the past and will be providing information on FIT’s (foreign independent travel), cruises and tours (escorted and independent), all-inclusive resorts and city stays, to help us plan future trips to Scandinavia. Cheryl will share brochures, information about laws, currency, and helpful information about packing.

So far this season we have enjoyed the Scandinavian dancers, folktale storyteller Helen Cole, and a presentation on St. Lucia at our meetings. We look forward to hearing from exchange students in February as they share experiences of going to school in our area this year, and information about their home countries.

Reservations are required and may be made by calling Carol Jacobsen at 480-279-6690 by January 10, or on www.scanclubsev.weeblycom. The catered dinner is $15 for members and $20 for guests.
