Sew-N-Sews

There were over 100 members in attendance at the February Sew-N-Sews meeting. Our guest speaker was Jan Maresh, an experienced sewer, educator, and author of several books, including Sewing for Dummies. In this reference book, you can find directions and information about many topics or skills used in sewing. Topics are easily found by searching and reading about that specific skill, for example, how to put in an invisible zipper.

The stash table was full, and many items could be found for use in new projects. It is always interesting to see the fabrics that are adopted from the stash table come back as an item of clothing, a quilt, or a craft item. Many members shared their work during Show and Tell, which is always very interesting and inspiring. Cathy Climp, Patty Hutson, Dianna Melcher, Connie Hogan, Andrea Pike, and Sue Boucher, who participated in the Applique Tote Bag class taught by Rita Grant, displayed their completed totes. The totes, which were appliqued using cork, were admired by many. We plan to schedule the class again in the fall.

At the March meeting new board members were nominated for the next two years. The presenter for this meeting was Barbara Johnston. She shared her skill for fabric manipulation and free-motion sewing.

The April meeting will be our spring luncheon, as well as the election of the new officers. The cost is $15, with reservations and payment due by April 3. Reservations may be made by calling Judy Waltz at 480-622-0711. The luncheon meeting will start at noon. The luncheon has been known to be elegantly decorated and a great time for all in attendance.

Guests are welcome to join Sew-N-Sews for two meetings before being asked to join. The new member fee is $25, which includes a name badge. Sew-N-Sews meets the second Wednesday of each month (September through May) in the Navajo Room at Sun Lakes Country Club at 1 p.m. Come early and peruse the stash table as well as the class offerings coming up.
