Sew-N-Sews

As the summer heat settles over Sun Lakes, Ariz., the Sew-N-Sews sewing club continues to keep its threads woven with creativity, even during the off-season. While the club typically takes a break from regular monthly meetings over the summer, the spirit of sewing remains alive with special interest groups and summer workshops.

At the May meeting, members of Sew-N-Sews gathered for their annual Show and Tell event where they showcased their latest projects, from beautifully crafted quilt hangings, as well as beautiful bags. The event was a vibrant display of talent, with members exchanging ideas and inspiration, making it clear that the club’s creativity knows no bounds, even during the quieter months.

“We love getting together and seeing what everyone has been working on,” said club Program Director Sue Boucher. “It’s a great way to celebrate our individual projects and learn new techniques from each other.”

The summer months have also seen an exciting lineup of hands-on workshops. Sew-N-Sews members rolled up their sleeves to take part in classes like Jelly Roll Rugs, where participants learned how to transform fabric strips into stunning, practical rugs, and Project Bag Making, a popular class designed to help members create their own custom storage bags. The classes, designed to be fun and educational, have been well-received, allowing both beginner and advanced sewists to sharpen their skills in a relaxed, friendly atmosphere.

Looking ahead, the club is gearing up for a return to its regular monthly meetings in September. During these meetings, the group will resume its regular programming, which includes various special interest groups focused on quilting, garment making, and other sewing-related activities and guest speakers. The club’s annual events, including workshops and retreats, will continue to provide members with ample opportunities for learning and socializing.

Sew-N-Sews meets on the second Wednesday of each month, September through May, in the Navajo Room at Sun Lakes Country Club, at 25601 E. Sun Lakes Blvd., in Sun Lakes. Meetings begin at 1 p.m. Sew-N-Sews can be reached by emailing them at sewnsews1@gmail.com, or come to a meeting.
