December wrapped up our holiday season with many activities of giving and sharing gifts. We celebrated as a group at our annual Christmas Luncheon on Dec. 10 and were entertained by the Sun Lakes Chordaires with wonderful Christmas tunes. Great food and fun abounded. Thank you to everyone who joined us!
Community Updates
This year we made more than 50 ornaments for the Children’s Cancer Network here in Chandler. Sandi Sterker, who is part of the Lions Club in Chandler, delivered them to the facility for us.
Our Special Interest Group, Children’s Charity, has been busy. Rotary Club of Sun Lakes (RCSL), in partnership with Sun Lakes Sew-N-Sews, has begun its third year with a $1,000 check presentation. Rotarians from RCSL’s Peacebuilder Committee and Sew-N-Sews Children’s Charities Committee members gathered to celebrate their third year of working together to lovingly create handmade comfort items for Amanda Hope Rainbow Angeles pediatric cancer patients, children in foster care from Child Crisis Center of Arizona, and the Chandler Police Department. Each year this partnership produces hundreds of items designed, sewn, and donated to children in need of a smile. Items include crayon/coloring book totes, race track totes, spring baskets, and 18-inch dolls with wardrobes.
This Special Interest Group has been encouraging members of Sew-N-Sews to use their talents and time to help children with health and other challenges in their lives.
Highlights of Our November Meeting:
We all enjoyed the presentation by Laurie McAlpin of Quilt Central in Green Valley, Ariz. She showed us many beautiful panels for sewing and quilting. So much interest by the group was expressed that we are planning a road trip to her shop on Thursday, Jan. 8. The number of sign-ups will determine how many drivers we will need or if we will pay for a bus. We will have shopping time as well as a demo, lunch somewhere, and head back to Sun Lakes. Check out their website www.quiltcentralstudio.com. RSVP to Sue Boucher at chefsue9122@gmail.com or 802-578-9122.
Wishing you a Happy New Year! Our January meeting will be on Jan. 14 at 1 p.m. in the Navajo Room in Sun Lakes Country Club. We have more than 162 members and would love to add you to our group! For more information, email sewnsews1@gmail.com. Or better yet, come join us at our next meeting. We’d love to see you there!
