Sew-N-Sews

Sew-N-Sews holiday luncheon

Phyllis Prysock

Do you love to create with fabric and needle and thread? Then you would love our fun group. We are a friendly group, and we gather to share ideas, projects, and laughs together. Our holiday luncheon was held in December. Entertainment was provided by the Chordaires and was enjoyed by all.

Our regular monthly meetings consist of a short business meeting, Show & Tell, door prizes, and a program. Before the meeting at 1 p.m., there is a Stash table where members bring sewing-related items they no longer want or have finally decided that the intended project will never get completed. When other members adopt those items, they frequently appear in future Show & Tells as a completed garment or quilt. We share our talents in smaller groups called Special Interest Groups and have classes that members may attend.

Our members are very generous, donating their time and resources to put smiles on children’s faces and make comfortable beds for pets. Children’s Charities (formerly named Dolly Dressers) is gearing up to make 100 Easter baskets to be distributed in March. Members make the baskets and fill them with all kinds of goodies for the children. The baskets will go to local charities to be distributed. Pads4Paws continues to make between 50 and 60 pet beds each month for distribution to local shelters and for veterans StandDowns across the state. We always need more help in these groups.

Guests are welcome to join us for two meetings before joining. The new member fee is $25, which includes a name badge. Membership is open to all Sun Lakes residents. We meet the second Wednesday of each month in the Navajo Room at Sun Lakes Country Club at 1 p.m.

Our meeting in February will be held on Feb. 14 in the Navajo Room at Sun Lakes Country Club at 1 p.m. Our member Jan Maresh, the author of Sewing for Dummies, will present the program. We invite you to come and join us. Members come early and join us for lunch at the Sunset Grill restaurant in Sun Lakes Country Club at 11:15 p.m.
