This is the time of the year when we all have the opportunity to enjoy the weather and take advantage of all the opportunities and activities that are offered locally and throughout the area. Keep your community calendars close at hand, as there is so much to see and do, regardless of what your interests may be.
Typically in March, several of the model railroad clubs will be participating in events around the area and will get busier as the year goes on. For those who can’t wait and are young at heart, there are always things to see throughout the year only a short distance away. In Chandler, the Arizona Railway Museum is open on weekends. Make sure you check the times when they are open. Just a short trip up the 101 will get you to McCormick Stillman Railroad Park which has much to offer, including a scenic train ride for a small fee, plus a carousel for the younger crowd. For a little more adventure, a short ride up to the Goldfield Ghost Town may help you get acquainted with the Wild West and the life when mining for gold has many stories to be told. There is a 20-minute train ride around the town for a small fee, plus some shops and the scenic backdrop of the famous Superstition Mountains with all the stories about the Lost Gold Mine. It is suggested that if you plan any of these trips, you check things out with their websites, as the times they are open vary somewhat from day to day.
