While the final days of summer start becoming a thing of the past, the Short Line Model Railroad Club returns in full swing on September 13. The club will be meeting in the Pima Room at the SunBird Golf Resort at 1:00 p.m. The Pima Room is located on the second floor of the Community Center, just to the left of the restaurant. As always, interested parties and new members are always welcome to attend at any of our meetings.
Over the years we have found out that once we reach September things tend to move out on the fast track. Starting out in early October several of the local communities will be holding their annual Community Days. These continue right up into November. I suggest you keep a close eye on your bulletin boards and the local papers for times and locations.
For you railroad enthusiasts there are many opportunities right up to the end of the year with a variety of things to enjoy. If you’re active in the hobby, several “train only” swap meets will be available to the public. It’s a fun way to pass a couple of hours and a chance to purchase some of those things you can’t live without at a reasonable price. Close by we have the Chandler Railroad Museum, which I believe is only open on weekends. A short trip up to Scottsdale will take you up to McCormick/Stillman Railroad Park where there are rides and activities for the children and adults at their annual Railfair weekend in October. You will also be treated to the operating displays of many of the area clubs that have a variety of operating model railroad models spread around the area. The Railfair annually is put together by the City of Scottsdale and it is free to the public with the exception of food and rides.
