Spirit of the Desert gourd patch will resume its monthly meeting on October 19, 2017, in the Painting Room of the Arts and Crafts Building in Oakwood. This year, there will be a new format for the meetings, and we invite guests and prospective new members to come and visit.
The business portion of the meeting will be quick and run from 4:00 to 4:30 p.m. Members and guests may attend this portion of the meeting if they like. The meeting will then turn more educational and social, running from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m.
This month, we would like all attendees to bring a project, completed or not, for Show and Share. It’s so great to hear an artist describe their process and show their work. And often discussion about other methods and problem-solving happens during this portion of our meetings.
For our demo this month, Carol Reese, our treasurer, will show us how to make Thunder Gourds! There’s lots to learn, and Carol has made many and knows all the tricks.
Also at the meeting we will be discussing our upcoming Pop Up Happy Hour Sale on November 17 in the Sun Lakes Country Club Lobby from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. About half of our 40 members will have gourd art for sale – that’s bound to cover everything from small jewelry and holiday ornaments up to very elaborate bowls and wall hangings. We have many novice artists in our patch, along with many award-winning artists. The variety of work and prices and styles will be huge. We’re sure you’ll find something for a Christmas gift, as well as something for yourself!
See you also at all the HOA Open Houses. Stop by and see if gourds are meant to be your next wonderful hobby!
