Spring and Projects Are Moving Right Along

Blanca Sanchez, Desert Threads Chapter of AQG

February was a blink of an eye, and March came in with more amazing quilting and fiber arts projects and upcoming inspiring programs. We will have hosted our third Community Service Retreat project with 3-Yard Quilts patterns the first weekend in March for our service projects, and the excitement of the month is the AQG (Arizona Quilters Guild) Quilt Show in the new location, which will also have a car show adjacent to our show. This is quite the win-win for quilters who have spouses, friends, and family members who would also like to see a car show and a quilt show all in the same location.

Our quilt group is looking forward to showing finished or started projects from our March classes, such as pin cushions, Hawaiian applique, and charm squares that are fabric dyed, to name just a few of our most recent lectures and classes. We always have such fun Show and Tells. In April we look forward to the Mad About Plaid class taught by Victoria Huron, with a pattern by Heather Peterson called Gone Plaid.

We look forward to seeing new and old sewing friends at the Quilt Show and seeing some new and exciting products, projects, and, of course, all kinds and sizes of quilts and quilt projects! Last, but certainly not least, is the excitement of the youths who have entered quilts into the upcoming show and the ability to practice sewing at the show for interested youths at the Next Gen booth.

We’d love for you to join us! Desert Threads is a welcoming, inclusive group. We meet on the second Wednesday of each month from 9 to 11:30 a.m. in the Cottonwood Computer Learning Center, 25630 S. Brentwood Drive, in Sun Lakes.
