This month, we will be introducing a few of our very talented authors!
Meet Carole Schossow, Lorin Hicks, and Mike Konyu.
Carole Schossow is from Iowa and writes inspirational poetry. She joined the Sun Lakes Arts and Crafts Association (SLACA) only one year ago. She started writing poems when she needed one for her late Pastor husband’s monthly devotional newsletter and could not find one she liked. Her first poem came in a dream and words have been flowing through her ever since. Her writing has been her purpose ever since the loss of her husband. Since age 14 she had wanted to do a service to God and at age 87, that long ago prayer was answered.

Lorin Hicks has been a member of the club for four years now. Lorin is from Sioux Falls, S.D. He is a writer of both novels and short stories. “The best part of writing,” per Lorin “is the feeling of accomplishment in completing and publishing a manuscript and hearing from readers that they enjoyed the stories.” He says writing fiction has stimulated his imagination and challenged his creativity. It has helped him become more observant of human behavior and unusual conditions in the natural world. He has been told by some of his readers that he inspired them to write their own stories.
Lorin advises that by joining the writer’s group here in Sun Lakes, he was provided with the inspiration and information for him to “go the distance.” He believes you should just write what you think and don’t worry about the form and format until later!
Mike Konyu is from Hammond, Ind. He also joined us four years ago. Mike writes novels—thriller fiction novels. He was recruited to the “Prime Time Writers” group by long-time resident Rich Wiley. Writing keeps his mind sharp and he loves the camaraderie with other writers and his readers.
Mike’s advice is to “just do it for yourself. It will help you grow and continue to be relevant.”
