Fred Giese, President
Hello, Lions. Well, it’s September already, so get ready for some fun filled, service packed months ahead.
I wrote the above line just minutes before going to the MD21 Kickoff. It was the installation of our New District Governor, Barbra Daily, and her new cabinet. The majority of the clubs from the southern part of Arizona were there and discovered that DG Barbara Daily’s goals for her term included having fun. Of course, we will still have our service projects which we are well known for, helping the blind and visually impaired. Reaching out to the vets in whatever way we can; making sure that the young children of this community are having their eyes screened so that any problems can be detected at an early age and addressed; helping to support Neighbors Who Care, Blankets for Seniors, Child Spree; the list goes on and on. We serve! That is what we do. We give to the community, the state, the country. We give to the world! That is what we do. Some of us in small parts, some in very large parts. But when those parts, large and small, are added together they become a gigantic force of good will, help, peace, friendship, brotherhood and mercy.
Fun, yes I was talking about fun. I am sure that giving to and working with all the organizations I mentioned is fun. But what about us? During the August meeting we will have started planning some fun things for the rest of the year, like a pot luck or pitch and putt tourney, or maybe a trip to the zoo. We will put our thinking caps on and come up with a schedule. So look forward to fun times ahead.
Speaking of a schedule, starting this month we will get into full swing for our Spaghetti Dinner on October 17. Most of the planning has been done. Now will be the time to get down to the nitty gritty and make this one of our best dinners ever. Once again, we will be supporting the vets with this dinner as well as Neighbors Who Care.
For those reading this who are not Lions, (you should be) you can purchase your Spaghetti Dinner tickets from any Breakfast Lion, from the vets, or at the front desk of Sun Lakes Country Club; $10 pp Saturday, October 17 from 4:00-7:15 p.m. Don’t forget there will also be a raffle and silent auction.
The Sun Lakes Breakfast Lions meet on the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month in the Navajo Room of Sun Lakes Country Club from 8:00-9:00 a.m. We invite all to come and see what we are all about. We also have eyeglass cleaning on the second Thursday of each month in the Arts and Crafts room of Sun Lakes Country Club from 5:15-7:00 p.m. This is a fun time and a good time to meet us. Hope to see you all there.
