Sun Lakes Breakfast Lions Club news

Fred Giese

Hello Breakfast Lions. Well, it’s April already. As you know we just finished the Spring Spaghetti Dinner and hopefully it was a success. Our thanks go out to all of you for your dedication and hard work. It takes a lot of planning and the participation of all the members plus all the other clubs who help to pull something like this off. Most of all it takes the support of the community, so thank you Sun Lakes residents and friends for continually coming out and contributing to all the great charities this event sponsors. We hope you enjoyed your dinner and had fun with the auction and raffle. Just as a reminder, we will be doing it again in October, so save your appetite.

A tentative slate of officers has been presented to the club for next year. You will be receiving a ballot in the mail shortly. Please return it. Any non-returned ballots will be considered as a yes vote for the slate. If you wish to run for an office or have someone in mind that is not on the slate, there will be a place for write-ins (the person written in must have agreed to accept the position).

On Monday, April 6 the Breakfast Lions Club, along with the Evening Lions Club, will be conducting a screening at the San Tan Jr. High using the Spot machine. This will be the first time we have put this project into effect and we are very excited about it. For those of you who are unaware of what the Spot Program is, it is a program where we will be going to schools within the Chandler region and testing the eyesight of children from Kindergarten through grade three. The machine itself (after data input) reads a child’s eyes and can determine whether or not glasses or other corrections are needed. It is small, fast, sophisticated and highly accurate. By screening these children, we give them a chance early on in life to find out if they need to have their eyes corrected and thus be able to see and learn better. We will be starting a full blown screening in August. A special thanks goes out to Carolyn Barrans from the Evening Lions Club for all her hard work putting this together.

Finally, for those reading who are not Lions, if you are looking for something to do to give back to the community and the world as a whole, I invite you to come check out the Sun Lakes Breakfast Lions Club. We meet on the second and fourth Tuesday of the Month at 8:00 a.m. in the Navajo Room of Sun Lakes Country Club. We don’t bite, we just roar.
