Are you ready for spring? We’ll probably have to endure at least one more cold snap, but hope “springs” eternal, right?! The Chorale is getting ready. The enthusiasm and energy of our director (hello, he’s way younger than we are) is contagious, and if you attended the Holiday Concert, you know what I mean. If you didn’t attend, tsk, tsk, tsk. But you can catch up on Thursday, March 20, at Sun Lakes United Methodist Church if you attend our Spring Concert. We’ve got another great song lineup for you. No spoilers here, but we’ll be singing about a famous highway, a mean witch’s death, the enigma of the younger generation, and much more—a little jazz, a little swing, and a little smooth melody. Advance tickets will be available very soon. Watch community flyers for info.
We’ve all heard the saying, “All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.” Well, our Jack is not dull LOL. So, we schedule things to stave off the rigors of intense rehearsals. One way is to gather for our annual February Dinner. It’s an opportunity to eat, drink, decompress, and enjoy each other’s company outside the rehearsal venue. Shortly after the concert, we will hold our annual meeting and election of board members. Then we get our long break until September. Many of our members are snowbirds, so the summer break is a necessity.
Speaking of September, we usually reconvene the first Monday after Labor Day, but that date is not yet established. If you reside in Sun Lakes and you love to sing, you are welcome to join before Oct. 31, no exceptions. There is a nominal membership fee and no auditions, although you will be voice-tested by the director for accurate section placement. We meet every Monday from 1 to 3:30 p.m. in the Methodist Church Choir Room, soon to be renamed the Cris Temple Evans Choir Room. If you are interested and have any questions, reach out to any Chorale member.
One last thing: One of our members, tenor Linda Horton, a solid member and past board member, is receiving the coveted Crystal Award. Linda is being honored for her many good deeds throughout the communities, especially her work assisting seniors who have been diagnosed and struggle with eyesight issues like macular degeneration. We are very proud of Linda. Well done, Linda!
Until next month, be well.
